World Environment Day and other Environment Awareness Programmes

One of the grave concern threatening mankind as well as all the living creatures is the looming crisis of global warming and its effect on the delicate balance of nature that sustains life on this planet. To inculcate this environmental crisis as well as importance in the mindsets, United Nations is organizing 5th June as the World Environment Day through its member countries so that world gets cleaner and greener. World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated all over the states in our country with relevance to the International theme to bestow a humane face to pressing environmental issues. It also tries to empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development as well as promote the understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards vital environmental issues and advocate partnership. The basic objective of this programme is to sensitize common people about the status of environment and creation of understanding about the environmental problems and to observe world environment day and other local specific environmental awareness programmes in different parts of the state. This project is supported by the Department of Environment & Forests, Govt. of Assam
