Orientation of Secondary School Teachers for Environment Education

1. Environment Education (EE) has become compulsory component in all spheres of education after the verdict of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. In Assam, the initiative has been started with the help of State Education Boards. With the commencement of EE, it has become utmost necessary to train up teachers and faculties in environmental education so that the target is reached. The basic aim through this programme is to train up secondary school level teachers in a period of five years. The teachers will be selected through cooperation from Directorate of Secondary Education and Secondary Education Board of Assam. The basic objective is to inculcate the required knowledge of environmental education to secondary school teachers in a systematic manner and orientation of teachers in recent local and global issues related to environmental conservation and management. This project is supported by the Department of Environment & Forests, Govt. of Assam
2. Organized a 4 day Workshop on Module preparation for Orientation of Secondary School Teachers in Environment Education from 7 – 10 July 2009 at SEBA, Guwahati
3. Training manual, Seuj Prayas published in both English and Assamese,br> 4. Training Programme of Master Trainers organised from 6-9 January 2010 at Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati.
5. Orientation Programme of Secondary School Teachers on Environment Education held in different places of Assam. So far 700 teachers have been oriented under this programme.
